What made you start a farm?At first, the idea of a small hobby farm (growing some fruits, and vegetables, having a few egg layers, and occasionally raising chicken for meat) seemed like a fun way to use the property. But after really looking into the food that is out there and that we put into our bodies everyday, we wanted to try our hand at growing our own food. We will know where our food was grown, what the enviornment around it was like, and we will know that there will not be any harmful chemicals or poisons used anywhere near them. We know that our animals live a healthy and happy life, not cooped up in small cages or pens.

Do you eat your chickens' eggs?Yes! We are not at the point where we can sell the eggs yet, but we get so many a week that our friends, family, and neighbors are welcome to as many as they want...just bring your own carton.

What is regenerative agriculture?"Regenerative Agriculture is a system of farming principles and practices that increases biodiversity, enriches soils, improves watersheds, and enhances ecosystem services. Regenerative Agriculture aims to capture carbon in soil and aboveground biomass, reversing current global trends of atmospheric accumulation. At the same time, it offers increased yields, resilience to climate instability, and higher health and vitality for farming and ranching communities. The system draws from decades of scientific and applied research by the global communities of organic farming, agroecology, Holistic Management, and agroforestry." - www.regenerativeagriculturedefinition.com

What is the plan?We are still in learning and building mode. We are about to entyer our second lambing season, and have just recrently planted our first orchard. Most importantly, we are going to revive our soil using our worms, compost, and organic materials from our animals. We have been failry successful on a small testing area where the orchard is and its surrounding area. The plan is to repeat that process throughout the property and keep growing. We plan to continue to plant more trees, while adding herbs, vegetables, and other fruits to the orchard (biodiversity). The goal for us is to just keep planting. Whether that may be a 1 gallon herb plant, vegetables from seed, or a 15 gallon fruit tree, we just want to keep putting things in the ground. Eventually, the plan is to have a thriving ecosystem from soil to tree top, creating an abundant farm where we can not only grow our own food, but sell to others who want food that is beyond organic. We also hope to be able to share and teach what we learned along the way.
